Image Writer II Network Printing By Ridge Prevost, Tucson Apple Core

    Question:

How do I print with ProDOS 8 programs from my Apple IIgs to a networked ImageWriter II (LocalTalk Option card installed)?

    Answer:

    1) First boot up to the GSOS desktop environment and make certain the IW2 is selected in the Network Printer control panel.

    2) When back in the GSOS desktop, launch the 8-bit program by double-clicking on its program icon.

    3) When it's time to print, make certain the program's printing options are set correctly. The slot selection should be the port you have AppleTalk active on.

For a ROM 1 GS that would be slot 7, since even though the LocalTalk connector is attached to slot 1 (printer port) it is slot 7 that is set to AppleTalk in the GS's classic control panel and to which output should be directed. ROM 3 GS's would have the program's printer slot option set to the same slot (port) that AppleTalk is active on, because the ROM 3 logic board is "wired" differently.

    4) Define a new IW2 printer for AppleWorks and called it "IW2 LocalTalk" (or the like) to distinguish it from the straight serial version.
